Join us for a fabulous five-day break to some of the hidden gems of WA’s south. Enjoy authentic experiences as you meet the locals, hear their stories, and learn more about the wonderful towns and produce we have in our own backyard here in WA.
This is a unique, experiential journey, centred on Manjimup, and showcasing the amazing produce grown by passionate local farmers. It is an exquisite culinary experience featuring a range of exciting dining treats with award-winning chefs, and wine-tasting at some of the regions top wineries. One of the major highlights is truffle hunting – the area is renowned for its black truffles – and we later enjoy a five-course dinner featuring recipes using this delicacy. This is a fabulous sojourn to a delightful pocket of WA!

Our journey begins with a private coach transfer which will take us through wonderful small towns and undulating countryside to arrive in Manjimup. We have time to settle into our accommodation and freshen up before transferring to our welcome dinner at the Cabernet Restaurant, where we get to know our fellow travellers while enjoying a complimentary glass of wine.

05/07/2022 Meeting Local Producers (BLD)
After a continental breakfast, we begin our agricultural knowledge of the Southern Forests area with a tour of the local marron and trout farm, where we meet some of the characters that farm the region. We then visit a local orchard where apple season is in full swing. We learn about the developing varieties that are constantly changing for consumer demands. We then move on to a private lunch with Chef Deb at Sooma Restaurant. Deb, one of the region’s most unique chefs, indulges us with a feast of marron and trout, displaying her creative flair on local produce. Following lunch, we take a tour of Three Ryans egg farm. The Ryan family are one of the traditional farmers of the area, cultivating a range of staple vegetables. This evening we are off to Peos Estate where we meet Vic and Bente, our hosts for the evening. After a vineyard walk with Vic, we sample his wines before indulging in a cultural feast in a unique facility overlooking the vineyard with a glass of complimentary wine in hand.
06/07/2022 Exploring Manjimup (BLD)
After breakfast we begin our exploration of the area, starting with a visit to the locals who sort and pack the produce ready for delivery to retailers. We then move on to lunch with Chef Raj at Cilantros restaurant where he displays his Indian heritage using the locally grown produce. In the afternoon we call visit local producers and meet some of the characters who farm the region. We have the opportunity to sample the produce, and roast some fresh chestnuts. Our next port of call is Tall Timbers Restaurant for a wonderful tapas dinner showcasing local produce. More than twenty wines are produced in the Southern Forests area, and of course, we enjoy some wine tasting as well.
07/07/2022 Truffle Hunting (BD)
This morning we discover the Manjimup Heritage Park, which provides a unique experience combining museums, recreational activities, natural bushlands and walk trails. Later we go on a truffle hunting adventure and learn the fascinating story of Australian black truffles (tuber melanosporum or Périgord truffle) and how they came to be sought after by the world’s best chefs. The Booth family take us for a wander amongst the hazelnut and oak trees in their orchard and engage the services of truffle dogs Molly, Gidgee and Max who lead us through the trees as they nose out the ripest of black truffles. We experience the excitement of digging up a truffle ourselves: the heady aroma of truffle the moment it is unearthed is unforgettable! After our truffle-hunting experience we call in to a local winery and prepare our tastebuds for the evening of culinary decadence ahead. Dinner tonight is a delight for the senses: we enjoy an exclusive five course dining experience, featuring the exquisite local black truffle, with award-winning Chef Joe Ditri. Definitely a night to remember!
