East Kimberley Safari

Join us on a magical 8-day journey of discovery to the ancient landscapes of the East Kimberley. This is one of the world’s last wilderness frontiers where deep blue skies meet vivid red rock and crystal clear waters course through deep gorges.

Our escorted tour begins in Kununurra. On arrival we transfer to Kununurra Country Club – our home for the next four nights. From this base, we enjoy a cruise on Lake Argyle to see rock wallabies, crocodiles and the prolific birdlife, and also enjoy a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungle ranges  – one of the highlights of the tour. These ancient beehive shaped ranges are a breathtaking sight from the air, and we also see them at ground level with a trek through Purnululu National Park to Cathedral Gorge. Our next stop is Emma Gorge inside El Questro National Park where we spend three nights in comfortable tented cabins. El Questro is perhaps the jewel in the crown of the East Kimberley, and rightly so. The scenery here is sensational, and we have ample opportunity to soak it all up, as well as enjoying the splendour of the Chamberlain Gorge with an afternoon cruise. Finally we return to Kununurra at the end of our wonderful East Kimberley Safari.

Our day of adventuring begins at 9.00am with a scenic flight which passes over the Bungle Bungle Range, Lake Argyle, the Argyle Diamond Mine, Ord River Irrigation Area, Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmand Ranges, Ord and Bow Rivers. Our plane lands at the remote and unsealed Bellburn Airstrip in Purnululu National Park, where we are met by our guide. From here we drive in an air-conditioned 4WD vehicle to the beginning of our walk – a moderate 3km walk throughout the famous eroded towers and beehive-shaped domes on the Domes Walk. We then head towards Cathedral Gorge, where we walk alongside towering cliffs which create phenomenal natural acoustics within the Gorge. We enjoy a tasty picnic lunch after our morning of exploring. We then head out along the rocky creek bed of Piccaninny Creek, which only flows during periods of high rainfall. After returning to Bellburn Airstrip, we make the return flight to Kununurra with views of the vast Argyle Diamond Mine, where rare pink diamonds were mined.
